Description:Bird watching safari in Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Park
Day One
Arrival at Entebbe International Airport. Meet & assist by your local guide on arrival and transfer to the Sheraton hotel and the drive takes approx. 45 minutes. Overnight at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel. (BB)
Day Two
Early departure for Masindi driving northwards through Luwero triangle. Birding stops will be made en-route and we could see Great Blue Turaco, White Crested Turaco, Starlings, Kites, and others. After a lunch stop at Court View Hotel in Masindi we continue to Murchison Falls National Park – Uganda’s largest reserve where 450 bird species have been recorded. Brief birding stops will be made en-route to Paraa Safari Lodge, our base for the next three nights. This lodge is on the northern bank of the river Nile. Bird watching may now start in earnest and to name but a few- Beautiful sunbird, Spotted Morning Warbler, Plovers, Starlings, Whinchat, Sooty Ant eater Chat. Overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge (FB).
Day Three/Four
We have two full days in Murchison Falls National Park. A birding drive on the northern Bank will add more birds on your list with species like Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, Ring necked dove, Naqua dove, Secretary bird, Swallow-tailed Bee eater, Sacred Ibis, Crocking Cisticola, Denham’s Burstard, Egrets and many more. We will take a boat trip up the Nile towards the bottom of the falls, you will see schools and schools of Hippos and you will be rewarded with more bird species like Purple heron, Long toed plover, Black-crowned night heron, Goliath Heron, Spur-winged plover, Spur-winged geese, White faced whistling duck, Red throated bee eater, African jacana, Rock pratincole, Squacoo heron, Grey headed kingfisher, black crake, Giant kingfisher, Pied kingfisher, Greate white egret, little egret, and a possible sighting of the rare Shoebill. Overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge again. (FB)
Day 5-6:
Fly from Murchison Falls National Park to Queen Elizabeth National Park. UENP has over 600 recorded bird species making it one of the highest in the world. A serious bird watcher may record more than 200 species a day. An excellent variety seen here include Temminck’s courser, Namaqua dove, Grey crowned crane, Helmeted guinea fowl, Black-rumped button quail, common quail, Harlequin quail, Weavers, Canaries, Raptors, Martins, African Spoonbills, Ducks, Kingfishers, Cormorants, Storks, African skimmers, Geese, Sandpipers, Shanks, Swallows, Swifts, Pelicans, and many others. In the afternoon enjoy birding the Kazinga channel that joins Lake George and Edward on the boat. Dinner and overnight at M.S.L. (FB)
Day 7:
After breakfast, drive to Entebbe International Airport for departure.
